Thank you so much for clicking over. Appreciate it.
Let me tell you what this site is, and why I’m doing it.
First, a little about me, which I’ll try to keep brief.
I went to Michigan State University and got a BA in Journalism. I worked in the newspaper industry — it was a thing — and became the Managing Editor of a now defunct chain of papers based in Royal Oak, MI.
With a bit of foresight on the demise of print, I jumped into online advertising at one of the first digital agencies. I’ve been in advertising ever since with almost 30 years of agency experience under my belt before I quit and went freelance just before COVID hit. Doing that, and maybe this.
I’ve been with my wife Amy since late in our senior year of high school and we have one daughter who we named Madison, but who goes by Kate from her middle name. She lives in Chicago. We are in Port Huron, Michigan.
I’ve also been a political junkie all my life. I’ve worked in the lower tier of political campaigns on and off since 1988. In 2018, I was the Campaign Manager for a US Congressional candidate in our very red district. Unsurprisingly, she lost to a Republican, but it was an amazing experience, both good and bad.
The main reason I’m here is because of the dire straits we’re in with Trump 2.0.
I’m as scared as anyone and want to do anything I can to help. Of course, that will mean on-the-ground work as we ramp up for the 2026 Midterms. But, in the meantime, I’m hoping to help through my writing.
I want to publish stories that help people understand what’s going on and maybe provide some insight on what should be done. I guess you’d call them essays. Somewhere between rants and a master’s thesis. I’m also into policy, but not delivered like it came from a nerdy think tank.
It’s also therapeutic.
I always have stuff rattling around in my head non-stop. Getting it “on paper” might help the state of my central nervous system. That goes for other topics too.
From movies and music and travel to things about life in general, I’m always writing something in my head. I’ve had a blog for years which I never promoted, but also didn’t add much to. I hope that having some followers here pushes me to write more about more things.
That’s it in a nutshell.
I’m still figuring out the Substack system. I’m not sure if what I produce merits a paid subscription model at some point. I guess we’ll see if anyone likes what I write. But, I will tell you that it’s kind of empowering to have a place to write about anything you want. And to use my marketing skills on me for a change.
I hope you follow along and hope we get some dialogue going.
Welcome to Substack! Looking forward to reading your posts 🙂
