"No plan" tariff hikes are officially kicking in on nearly everything. But, maybe you believe there's some master plan to bring iPhone manufacturing, suicide nets, and sweat shops back to the United States.
None of that is going to happen. But it's a down-the-road pipe dream to hold on to.
What will you hold onto when your mom or dad are kicked out of assisted living and you have no choice but to bring them to your spare room, or couch, with no assistance but yourself?
Can you afford to throw away a two couple income so there's a caregiver?
Do you think the loophole to "turn that home care into a LLC" will be there?
What does that to for your plans to help your children a bit through college to ease them coming out of school with a giant financial burden?
What does that all do for your retirement?
Did the dream of the cabin Up North or on the lake just slip away no matter how hard you've both worked your asses off?
These are "comfortable" Middle Class Gen X scenarios.
Put a GIANT chunk of MAGA voters receiving all kinds of "welfare" that they don't think is, and you have one hell of a reckoning coming.
I think it's the only way out.
We are in no position to be immune. My mother in the future, Amy's special needs sister who is completely financially self-sufficient after her parents died through any number of SS and Medicaid/Care programs. Jobs?
Our somewhat comfortable lives could very well be blown completely up.
