MUSIC MONDAY: Night Train | Oscar Peterson Trio
Your weekly post highlighting a full album worth listening to.
Ever since the tragedy of 11/5 I’ve been trying to change up some things in my life to make me feel better about things. This site is a big one, going on a strict cable new diet was the other.
Instead of MSNBC in the background I’ve made a point to listen to more music and specifically more full albums. I have a tendency to make mixes and listen to genres on shuffle. I’m doing this with stuff I know from the past, things I don’t know well, and new stuff.
I’m well aware of Oscar Peterson (and the title track here) but had never listened to a full album. I somehow ran across a mention of this and gave it a shot. It’s fantastic. Beautifully played, mellow and tight with lots going on for a trio, but not at all messy. While primarily standards, “Hymn to Freedom” was an original that became an anthem in the Civil Rights movement.
